PDP’s Pulwama District President Abdul Gani Killed By Militants

He was attacked in the south Kashmir district by terrorists, 31 kms from Srinagar.

On Monday, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) district president in Pulwama, Abdul Gani Dar, was attacked in the south Kashmir district by militants. He was rushed to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Gani was shot at by the militants in Pinglena area of Pulwama district, 31 kms from Srinagar, in the afternoon, a police official said.

Gani was rushed to the SMHS Hospital in Srinagar after being shot at thrice from close range with an AK assault rifle, leaving him in a critical condition. Two bullets hit him in the chest, and one in the shoulder.

No militant outfit has claimed responsibility for the killing so far.

This is the second political killing in south Kashmir in a week.

Earlier, the Pulwama district president had received warnings against being part of mainstream parties like the PDP.

NC, CPI(M) Condemn Dar’s Killing

The Opposition National Conference and the CPI(M) condemned Abdul Gani Dar’s killin.

“We express solidarity with Dar Sahab's family and express our grief at this tragic incident. May God give the family the strength to bear this loss,” the state spokesman for the National Conference said in a statement.

Condemning Dar's killing, senior CPI(M) leader and MLA Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami termed the incident a “heinous and barbaric act”.

Tarigami said society must come out and express itself against such “brutal acts of violence”.

“Violence in all its manifestations is condemnable, as violence begets violence. These incidents of brutality are not acceptable to any civilised society,” he said.
