Posters Offering Rs 11 Lakh for Kanhaiya’s Head Crop up in Delhi

On Saturday, a certain Hindi poster was found in parts of central Delhi with a reward for anyone who would shoot Kanhaiya Kumar.

The Hindi poster from one Adarsh Sharma, the President of a Purvanchal Sena, offered Rs 11 lakh to anyone who would shoot the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union President.

Sources in the Delhi police have told The Quint that the police force has taken suo moto cognizance of the incident. They are now looking into the matter and have also sought legal opinion on possible sections under which a case can be registered. Nobody has been called in for questioning yet.

Reports also suggest that the Delhi police is keeping a close watch on Kanhaiya Kumar’s whereabouts.

The poster with slogans of Bharat Mata Ki Jai and Jai Purvanchal begins with a big, bold Vande Mataram and ends with the contact number of this Mr Sharma.

This is not the first instance of such a threat against the JNU Students’ Union President. Earlier on the same day, BJP Yuva Morcha leader Kuldeep Varshney announced a reward of Rs 5 lakh to anyone who cuts off Kanhaiya’s tongue.

Varshney has now been expelled for his comment and the BJP has clarified that his actions in no way reflect the party’s views.
