Motherhood should be put off for at least four years, the Indian Air Force has advised its three women trainees, who are in line to become India’s first female fighter pilots, after they get commissioned into the IAF in June, according to Hindustan Times.

The newspaper quoted IAF vice chief Air Marshal BS Dhanoa as saying that an advisory to avoid pregnancy had been issued to the women so that their training schedule was not disrupted. The women are preparing to head for the last leg of their combat training in June.

But the report mentioned how rigorous training is required for a minimum of five years for fighter pilots to become combat ready, and that the practice was prevalent in all major air forces.
