Union Minister Maneka Gandhi had rare praise for her estranged sister-in-law and Congress President Sonia Gandhi while talking about tackling corruption in Uttar Pradesh, her constituency, on Sunday.
During a vigilance meeting with the officials of Pilibhit, the officials were complaining about corrupt babus taking bribes in order to grant recognition to schools. Officials added to the complaint, saying that they have no official powers to act against these corrupt babus, reports NDTV.
Maneka Gandhi then explained that Sonia Gandhi used advertisements to deal with a man who was misusing her name.
She went on to explain to the officials of her constituency that they must learn from this and post ads.
Sonia Gandhi and Maneka Gandhi were married to Rajiv and Sanjay Gandhi respectively. They had a falling out and for years together have maintained their distance as they both hold opposing political views.
In 2004, Maneka Gandhi and her son, Varun, quit congress to join rival party, the BJP.
