Karnataka Youth Held for Posting Modi’s Morphed Photo on Facebook

The police are investigating whether the photo was morphed by him or just circulated.

  • 25-year-old Mohammed Mehboob, a jewellery shop employee, was arrested by Gangavathi Police in Koppal district, Karnataka for posting a manipulated photo of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his Facebook page.


  • The photo showed Modi touching the feet of Akbaruddin Owaisi, president of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) and MLA in the Telangana Legislative Assembly.


  • BJP activists, upon seeing the photo, informed the police to take immediate action. Police have seized his phone and are interrogating him on whether the photo was created by him or just circulated.


  • A case has been filed under Section 153A of the IPC (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language etc and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony).
