- Vice-Chancellor of the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (Anantapur), MM Sarkar and two others, were killed when their car collided with a lorry on the national highway in Anantapuramu district of Andhra Pradesh.
- The VC and the others, his personal assistant Fakruddin and his driver, Prasad, were heading for Kurnool to take part in an NSS programme.
- State HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao, Information Minister Palle Raghunatha Reddy and Pradesh Congress president N Raghuveera Reddy condoled the tragic death of the VC.
