Uttar Pradesh suspends Senior IPS officer Amitabh Thakur who alleged that he was intimidated by ruling Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav.
The suspension came on a day when Thakur, an IG-level officer, approached the Union Home Ministry in Delhi seeking a CBI probe into the rape case filed against him after he lodged a complaint against Mulayam for being threatened.
An official release said the state government has suspended Thakur with immediate effect on prima facie charges of dereliction of duty, indiscipline, taking an anti-establishment approach and flouting high court orders.
The release said that during his period of suspension, Thakur will remain attached to the DGP office and not leave the state headquarters without the DGP’s permission.
“I will challenge it in a court of law. I will bring the matter before the court concerned,” said Amitabh Thakur.
“When Mulayam Singh Yadav can scold the chief minister, there is nothing wrong in his scolding an official,” Akhilesh Yadav said.
Mulayam Singh Yadav had threatened me with dire consequences. I have met the Additional Secretary and sought security for me and my wife by central forces. A “false” rape case had been slapped against me after I lodged a complaint against the ruling SP supremo in Lucknow on July 10. I want a CBI investigation into the rape charge against me.

Another senior UP minister Azam Khan demanded that the charges of rape levelled against Thakur be probed thoroughly.
The IPS officer’s wife has been named a co-accused in the FIR.
No wife will help her husband to rape a woman. Besides my children also live in my house which is very small. Let the CBI probe the allegation. If my demand is not met, I will approach the High Court and seek justice. This is a political conspiracy against me.
