Child Welfare Committee Seeks Report on Budhia Singh Disappearance

  • The Child Welfare Committee (CWC) on Thursday sought a report from the Odisha government on the whereabouts of child marathon prodigy Budhia Singh, who has reportedly been missing since over a month.

  • CWC member Benudhar Senapati said the boy was lodged at the sports hostel in Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneshwar and the hostel-in-charge has been asked to submit a report within three days.

  • Budhia, who went to his mother Sukanti Singh’s house at Salia Sahi in the city’s slum on 10 May during his summer vacation, did not return even though the hostel re-opened on 4 June.

  • While the sports hostel has no information of his whereabouts, officials report that the boy has taken leave from the school authorities till 27 July. Meanwhile, sports and youth service secretary Saswat Mishra on 8 July had said the boy will return within four days.
