Calcutta High court has rejected the bail plea of West Bengal Transport Minister Madan Mitra on Thursday. Congress leader and Mitra’s lawyer Kapil Sibal argued that section 409 that was slapped on Mitra is not applicable as he is not directly involved with the case.

The CBI counsel however said that if released, Mitra could tamper with evidence and witnesses. Madan Mitra was arrested on December 12, 2014 and the charges of criminal conspiracy, cheating and misappropriation of funds were slapped on him.
