Bangladesh SC upheld MP, Salahuddin Qader Chaudhury, death sentence, announced on October 1 2013.

He was sentenced to death for war crimes, including genocide, during the 1971 war of independence with Pakistan.

According to a BBC report in 2013, the Bangladesh National Party (BNP) member’s lawyer had argued that the court was politically motivated.

We are of the unanimous view that the accused deserves the highest punishment for committing such crimes that tremble the collective conscience of mankind.

The judge had announced the 63-year-old leader to be ‘hanged by the neck’ on October 1 2013.

Another Bangladeshi leader accused of war crimes, Mohammad Kamaruzzaman, was hanged on April 11, 2015.
