A four-day-old baby boy died under mysterious circumstances at an old government hospital on Monday in Vijayawada. There were injury marks on the baby’s body which the family members believe to be ant bite marks, The Deccan Chronicle reported.

Family members and leaders of political parties staged protests in the area citing hospital negligence as the reason for the baby’s death.

On Monday morning, the baby’s mother found him dead. The hospital staff put him in an incubator but he did not respond.

Hospital staff have, however, denied the allegations. The body was then sent for post-mortem.

Health minister Kamineni Srinivas has ordered a probe into the incident and even phoned the hospital staff to ask about the incident.

The collector said there was no negligence from the hospital staff as per initial investigation and that the post-mortem would reveal more.
