11 Dead After Consuming Spurious Liquor in Aligarh
The district magistrate has ordered an enquiry and three officials have been suspended.
At least 11 people died on Friday after allegedly consuming spurious liquor at Aligarh. The liquor was sold by a licensed vendor. Some were reported to be ill and were admitted to the district hospital.
A time-bound magisterial enquiry was ordered by District Magistrate Chandra Bhushan Singh. He stated that the probe will be conducted under a district magistrate-rank officer. Speaking to the media, he stated that the administration will likely invoke NSA against those found guilty.
Aligarh district excise officer, an excise inspector and a head constable were suspended immediately over the incident.
“Police teams were sent to the area and the bodies sent for autopsy,” said the DIG. The DM informed that five of the deceased were from Karsia.
Deputy Commissioner, Excise, D Sharma, said, “Those taken ill were rushed to the district hospital. Later, they were shifted to Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College Hospital,” reported the PTI.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed officials to take stern action against those responsible for the incident.
