Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Tuesday called the killing of farmers in Mandsaur a “conspiracy fuelled by Congress,” and said that his government was “sensitive” to the needs of the farmers and stands with them.

While he initially announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the families of the five farmers who were shot dead during the protest, he later announced Rs one crore for the families of the deceased.

Our government has done a lot for farmers. Congress has conspired to turn this peaceful protest into violence.
Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Chief Minister, Madhya Pradesh

While initial reports alleged that the police opened fire at the farmers during their on-going protests, demanding waiver of loans, the Madhya Pradesh government denied the the allegation and accused “anti-social” elements for being responsible for the attack.

In protest, Rashtriya Kisaan Mazdoor Sangh has called for a state-wide bandh on Wednesday. The government has imposed curfew and cut off internet services in Mandsaur.
