Closing Bell: Sensex, Nifty End Mixed After Volatile Trade Session

Sensex fell as much as 138 points or 0.35% to 39,619.31 while the NSE Nifty 50 fell as much as 0.36% to 11,863.30.

Markets closed after a volatile trading session on Thursday, 13 June.

The S&P BSE Sensex ended 0.04 percent or 15 points lower at 39,741.36 while the NSE Nifty 50 ended 0.07 percent higher at 11,914.05. The broader market index represented by the NSE Nifty 500 Index ended 0.03 percent lower.

The gains HDFC Bank Ltd and Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd made were offset by the losses in Infosys Ltd and IndusInd Bank Ltd.

1,164 stocks declined and 598 shares advanced on National Stock Exchange.

Seven out of 11 sectoral gauges compiled by NSE ended lower, led by the NSE Nifty PSU Bank Index’s 1 percent fall. The NSE Nifty Media Index was the top sectoral gainer, up 1.15 percent.

Earlier in the day, the Indian equity benchmarks had opened lower, led by decline in Yes Bank shares after it received its most bearish target.
