Closing Bell: Nifty Ends Below 11,050, Sensex Down 74 Points

Indian equity benchmarks snapped their three-day gaining streak on Tuesday, 20 August, despite a recovery in automakers, according to BloombergQuint.

The S&P BSE Sensex fell 0.20 percent to close at 37,328.01 and the NSE Nifty 50 declined as much as 0.33 percent to 11,017. The broader markets represented by the NSE Nifty 500 Index fell as much as 0.45 percent.

Major gainers on the Nifty were Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors, HCL Technologies, Infosys and Dr Reddys Laboratories, while major losers were Yes Bank, Indiabulls Housing, Britannia Industries, UltraTech Cement and IndusInd Bank, Moneycontrol reported.

Metal, PSU bank, energy, FMCG and infra witnessed selling pressure among the sectors while auto, IT and pharma stocks gained.
