Markets Zoom as Sensex Goes Up 185 Points, Nifty Above 11,900

Equity markets overturned the minor losses it registered on Monday, to end with handsome gains on Tuesday, 19 November.

The 30-share BSE Sensex gained 185.51 points to close at 40,469.70, while the broader 50-share NSE Nifty finished the day’s trading at 11,940.10, up 55.60 points.

Foreign institutional investors offloaded shares worth Rs 270.66 crore in the capital market in the previous session, while domestic institutional investors purchased equities worth Rs 309.45 crore, data available with stock exchange showed.

Globally, bourses in Shanghai, Hong Kong, Seoul and Tokyo were trading on a mixed note amid uncertainty over US-China trade deal.

On the currency front, the rupee depreciated 10 paise (intra-day) against the US dollar to trade at 71.94 in early session.

Among sectors, all sub-indices with the exception of Nifty Metal and Nifty Auto, finished with gains.

Bharti Airtel, Reliance, Axis Bank were among the top gainers while Yes Bank, Mahindra & Mahindra and Tata Steel lost the most.
