Equity markets opened at record levels on Tuesday, 26 November, as both Sensex and Nifty hit fresh highs in opening trade.

30-share BSE Sensex gained more than 140 points to open at 41,022.85 - the index breaching the 41,000-mark for the first time in history. The broader 50-share NSE Nifty also hit an all-time high, going past the previous peak of 12,074.

At 9:30 am, both the indices were gaining more than half a percent.

All sectoral sub-indices were trading in the green in Tuesday's morning trade with public sector bank stocks gaining the most.

Meanwhile, the rupee on Tuesday appreciated by 8 paise to 71.66 against the US dollar in early trade propelled by foreign capital inflows and gains in domestic equity market.

Easing crude oil prices and a weaker greenback in overseas markets also influenced the sentiment, forex dealers said.

At the Interbank Foreign Exchange, the rupee opened strong at 71.67, showing a rise of 7 paise over its previous closing.
