Markets Close Higher: Sensex Gains 255 Points, Nifty Above 11,000

Domestic equity benchmark Sensex jumped over 254 points in the closing session on Friday, 9 August, led by gains in banking and energy stocks.

BSE Sensex finished at 37,581.91, an increase of about 0.68 percent, in the closing trade.

The Nifty50, on the other hand, ended 77.20 points higher at 11,109.65, an increase of about 0.70 percent.

Meanwhile, low-cost carrier SpiceJet reported its highest-ever quarterly profit in Q1 of this financial year on the back of Boeing reimbursements and strong revenue growth YoY, Moneycontrol reported.

Earlier during the day, after surging 285 points in opening trade, the 30-share index was trading 238.59 points or 0.64 percent higher at 37,565.95 at 9:45 am; and the broader Nifty too rose 73.10 points or 0.66 percent to 11,105.55, PTI reported.
