Closing Bell: Sensex Ends 234.33 Pts Higher, Nifty Above 11,600

Benchmark indices closed strong on Tuesday, 16 July, with the Sensex rising 234.33 points to 39,131.04 and the Nifty 50 climbing 72.70 points to 11,661.05.

Earlier in the day, equity benchmark Sensex jumped over 100 points, driven by gains in banking stocks, amid mixed cues from global markets.

Top gainers in the Sensex pack included Tata Motors, Vedanta, NTPC, PowerGrid, ICICI Bank, SBI and Axis Bank, rising up to 1.65 percent.

On the other hand, TCS, Hero MotoCorp, Bajaj Auto, M&M, TechM, HCL Tech and Kotak Bank fell up to 1.62 percent.
