Sensex Gains Over 250 Points, Nifty Ends Near 11,600 Mark

Sensex opened at 38,720.19 points, up by 163.15 points, while NIFTY 50 opened at 11,548.90 points.

Domestic equity benchmark BSE Sensex gained over 250 points in the closing session, while Nifty inched towards the 11,600 mark on Thursday, 11 July.

The S&P BSE Sensex rose 266.07 points, an increase of 0.69 percent, to close at 38,823.11. The Nifty50 gained 84 points, recording a marginal increase of 0.73 percent to end at 11,582.90.

Shares of Reliance Infra snapped its five-day fall and gained more than 16 percent intraday to close at Rs 53.50, a BloombergQuint report said.

Earlier during the day, Sensex jumped over 200 points in opening session, tracking strong cues from global markets after US Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell hinted at a rate cut soon.

The 30-share index, however, gave up some gains to trade 106.35 points, or 0.28 percent, higher at 38,663.39 at around 9:30 am. Similarly, the broader Nifty rose 33.80 points, or 0.29 percent, to 11,532.70.

Top gainers in the early trade of Sensex pack included Vedanta, Tata Steel, SBI, Tata Motors, ONGC, PowerGrid, Yes Bank, Sun Pharma and M&M, rising up to 2 percent.

On the other hand, the Indian rupee opened higher against the US dollar. The home currency appreciated as much as 0.38 percent to 68.31 against the greenback.
