Sandhu, a 1988-batch Indian Foreign Service officer, is currently posted as High Commissioner of India in Sri Lanka.

A low-intensity earthquake, measuring 3.6, hit the Union Territory of Ladakh on Monday, officials said.

BSF troops have shot down a Pakistani drone along the International Border in Arnia sector of Jammu, officials were quoted by PTI as saying.
A militant was killed in a brief encounter with security forces on Monday after the ultras opened fire on a patrol team in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir, injuring a soldier, officials said.
The jawan suffered injuries after he was hit by a bullet fired by some militants in the Arwani area of Anantnag district, the officials said.

The Enforcement Directorate on Monday arrested Kapil Wadhawan, the chairperson and managing director of Dewan Housing Finance Ltd (DHFL), in connection with a money-laundering probe against deceased gangster Iqbal Mirchi and others.
Arrested gangster Ejaz Yusuf Lakdawala sent to judicial custody till 10 February in connection with another extortion case. This is the third case in which he has been arrested.

The government on Monday announced sale of 100 per cent stake in debt-laden Air India as it issued the preliminary bid document for the strategic disinvestment and has set March 17, as the deadline for submitting expression of interest.
The government has nominated additional secretary at the Ministry of Finance, Sanjeev Kaushik, as director on the board of Indian Bank.
He will replace Amit Agrawal, joint secretary in the Department of Financial Services, Ministry of Finance.
The union government, through its notification dated 24 January, nominated Sanjeev Kaushik, Additional Secretary, Department of Financial Services as nominee director on the board of the bank with immediate effect, Indian Bank said in a regulatory filing.

The Andhra Pradesh cabinet has approved the decision to abolish the legislative council after the chairman referred the three-capital Bill to the select committee on discretionary powers.

At least seven people were killed on Sunday in a car bomb that hit a rebel-held city in northwestern Syria, a war monitor said.
More than 20 others were wounded in the explosion in Azaz, located in the heart of a Turkish zone of influence in Aleppo province, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
The Britain-based monitor said the car bomb targeted a bustling area located near several restaurants, leading to severe material damage.
