Taranjit Singh Sandhu Appointed India’s Ambassador to US
Senior diplomat Taranjit Singh Sandhu has been appointed as India's Ambassador to the US, the Ministry of External Affairs said on Tuesday.
Sandhu, a 1988-batch Indian Foreign Service officer, is currently posted as High Commissioner of India in Sri Lanka.

Low-Intensity Earthquake Hits Ladakh
A low-intensity earthquake, measuring 3.6, hit the Union Territory of Ladakh on Monday, officials said.
According to the Director, Meteorological department, Sonam Lotus, the quake occurred at 1956 hours at a depth of 10 kilometres in the Ladakh region.

Agni Prasad Sapkota Sworn in as Nepal's Speaker Amid Protests
Agni Prasad Sapkota on Monday was sworn-in as the Speaker of Nepal's House of Representatives, the Lower House of Parliament, amid protests by human rights activists against his appointment.
The leader of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) was elected to the post unopposed on Sunday.
The post of the Speaker was lying vacant since October last year after Krishna Bahadur Mahara resigned following allegations of attempted rape.

A militant was killed in a brief encounter with security forces on Monday after the ultras opened fire on a patrol team in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir, injuring a soldier, officials said.
The jawan suffered injuries after he was hit by a bullet fired by some militants in the Arwani area of Anantnag district, the officials said.

The government on Monday announced sale of 100 per cent stake in debt-laden Air India as it issued the preliminary bid document for the strategic disinvestment and has set March 17, as the deadline for submitting expression of interest.
Govt Nominates Sanjeev Kaushik on Board of Indian Bank
The government has nominated additional secretary at the Ministry of Finance, Sanjeev Kaushik, as director on the board of Indian Bank.
He will replace Amit Agrawal, joint secretary in the Department of Financial Services, Ministry of Finance.
The union government, through its notification dated 24 January, nominated Sanjeev Kaushik, Additional Secretary, Department of Financial Services as nominee director on the board of the bank with immediate effect, Indian Bank said in a regulatory filing.

Car Bombing Kills 7 in Syria's Rebel-Held Azaz
At least seven people were killed on Sunday in a car bomb that hit a rebel-held city in northwestern Syria, a war monitor said.
More than 20 others were wounded in the explosion in Azaz, located in the heart of a Turkish zone of influence in Aleppo province, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
The Britain-based monitor said the car bomb targeted a bustling area located near several restaurants, leading to severe material damage.
