Three Men Arrested With 2.6 Kg Drugs in Muzaffarnagar

Three men were arrested with around 2.6 kg drugs in a village in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar district on Saturday, 22 February, police said.

Speaking to reporters, Circle Officer SK Gill said 2.148 kg of ganja and 450 grams of charas along with Rs 5,620 cash were recovered from their possession during checking in Sisoli village under Bhora Kalan police station limits of the district.

PM Modi Inaugurates Khelo India University Games

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday, 22 February, launched the first-ever Khelo India University Games at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Cuttack, on Saturday, 22 February.

PM Modi launched the multi-disciplinary sporting event through a video conference facility.

As many as 3400 athletes from 159 universities across the country will vie for top honours across 17 disciplines, including rugby which is among the six team events.

At Least Three Women Killed in Fire in Chandigarh PG

Three young women died when a fire broke out at a house in Chandigarh on Saturday, 22 February, police said.

The women, aged 19-22, were staying as paying guests on the first floor of the building in Sector 32, Chandigarh Superintendent of Police Vineet Kumar said.

Four fire tenders were pressed into service to put out the blaze. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, the police added.

240-250 Militants Active in Kashmir; 25 Killed so Far in 2020: J&K DGP

The number of listed militants in Kashmir has come down to less than 250, while 25 terrorists were killed by security forces in nearly a dozen operations in the first two months of this year, Director General of Jammu and Kashmir Police Dilbag Singh said here on Saturday, 22 February.

He also said there has been confirmation of only three militants infiltrating into the Valley through the International Border so far this year.

A young couple was killed and their minor daughter seriously injured allegedly by the man's brother who wanted to appropriate the family's landed property here, police said.

Vidhnesh Kumar (35) and his wife Gita Devi (32) were killed with a sharp edged weapon while their minor daughter Vaishnavi was inflicted injuries by Vidhnesh's younger brother Avanesh Kumar, they said.

Prahar Janshakti Party Leader Shot Dead in Maharashtra

A local leader of the Prahar Janshakti Party (PJP) was allegedly shot dead by two unidentified assailants at Akot town in Maharashtra's Akola district, police said on Saturday, 22 February.

Tushar Pundkar, who was former Akola district chief of the PJP, was shot at around 10 pm on Friday, and died in the wee hours of Saturday while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Akola, police said.

Pundkar's body was sent to Akola Government Hospital for post-mortem, police said.

ED Raids Multiple Premises in Noida Bike Bot Ponzi Scam Case

The Enforcement Directorate on Saturday, 22 February, conducted searches at around a dozen locations in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh in connection with its money laundering probe against a Noida-based firm alleged to be involved in a ponzi scam, officials said.

They said that the raids are being conducted at about 12 premises in Delhi, Noida and Lucknow under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) in connection with the 'Bike Bot' case.

Niger Military Operation Kills 120 ‘Terrorists’: Official

A joint operation by Nigerien and French troops in southwest Niger killed 120 "terrorists" and seized bomb-making equipment and vehicles, the country's defence ministry said Friday.

As of February 20 "120 terrorists have been neutralised" in the operation in the vast Tillaberi region near the border with Mali and Burkina Faso, the statement said, adding there had been no losses among Nigerien or French troops.
