Maharashtra CM Announces Rs 5 Lakh Ex Gratia for Families of Those Killed in Palghar Fire

Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray announced an ex gratia of Rs 5 lakh each to the next of the kin of the deceased in the fire that broke out at a chemical factory in Boisar, Palghar on Saturday.

The state government will bear the expenses of all the injured, Palghar District Magistrate, Kailash Shinde said.

Encounter Breaks out Between Militants, Security Forces in J&K's Pulwama

An encounter broke out between militants and security forces in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, police said.

Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Gulshanpora area of Tral in the south Kashmir district Sunday morning after receiving specific intelligence about the presence of militants there, a police official said.

He said as the forces were conducting the searches, the militants fired at them, triggering an encounter. The exchange of fire was going on, the official said, adding further details are awaited.

According to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS), the quake occurred at 10.54 am at a depth of 10 kilometre.

Three persons were killed and one sustained injuries when their motorcycle was hit by a bus in Madhya Pradesh's Rajgarh district, police said on Sunday.

Stalin, who reported for night shift on Friday, was found hanging from the ceiling at the verandah of the police station at Ezhukone on Saturday, 11 January, they said.

Two Friends Killed in Accident in Baghpat

Two friends were killed after their motorcycle collided with a speeding car in Baghpat, police said on Sunday, 12 January.

Sunil and Harvir, both in their 30s, were returning from Delhi on Saturday night when the accident took place.

The bodies have been sent for post-mortem.

Tremors Felt in Himachal Pradesh's Kangra

An earthquake measuring 3.4 hit Himachal Pradesh's Kangra district on Sunday, 12 January, the Meteorological (MeT) Department said.

The epicentre of the earthquake was at a depth of 5 km northeast in Kangra district, the MeT department said. The tremors were felt in and around the Kangra district at 11.55 am, it said.

There are no immediate reports of any casualty or damage to property.

Dummy execution of the convicts of 2012 Delhi gang-rape case was performed today at Tihar Jail. The dummy was created in sacks filled with debris and stones, as per the weight of the convicts. Hangman was not called, but a jail official performed it.
