US Begins Formal Withdrawal From Paris Climate Accord

The United States has formally notified the United Nations of its withdrawal from the Paris climate accord, a global agreement in which President Donald Trump's predecessor Barack Obama and Prime Minister Narendra Modi had played instrumental roles.

Although Trump had announced his decision to withdraw from the historic Paris Agreement on climate change on 1 June, 2017, the process began on Monday with the formal notification and the US will be out of the pact on 4 November, 2020.

"Today, the United States began the process to withdraw from the Paris Agreement. Per the terms of the agreement, the United States submitted formal notification of its withdrawal to the United Nations. The withdrawal will take effect one year from delivery of the notification," US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said in a statement.

Turkey captured the sister of dead ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi on Monday, 4 November, in the northern Syrian town of Azaz, a senior Turkish official told Reuters, and is interrogating her husband and daughter-in-law who were also detained.

Hideout Unearthed in Kishtwar, Overground Worker of Hizbul Arrested

An Overground Worker (OGW) of Hizbul Mujahideen was arrested after security forces unearthed a hideout in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said on Tuesday.

A cache of arms and ammunition including a Pakistan-make 7.63 mm pistol with a magazine and a Chinese grenade were recovered from the hideout unearthed during a joint search operation by Rashtriya Rifles and police in Sangram Bhatta area of the district on Monday, the official said.

CBI Conducts 169 Searches in Connection with Bank Fraud Cases

CBI is conducting searches at around 169 places across the country including in Andhra Pradesh, Chandigarh, Delhi, Gujarat, Haryana, Karnataka, Kerala, MP, Maharashtra, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, UP, Uttarakhand, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, in connection with bank fraud cases.

Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered around 35 cases related to bank frauds of more than Rs. 7000 crores.

Revenue Official Caught Taking Bribe in Rajasthan's Barmer

A revenue department official was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau while accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 in Rajasthan's Barmer district, officials said.

The revenue official (Patwari), identified as Govind Ram, had demanded Rs 40,000 as bribe from two men - Parasmal and Dungar Singh - for mutation of an agriculture land.

Trump Chief Of Staff Summoned To Testify In Impeachment Probe

US House impeachment investigators on Tuesday, 5 November, summoned President Donald Trump's acting chief of staff Mick Mulvaney for a deposition, saying he has "substantial first-hand knowledge" of Trump's efforts to pressure Ukraine.

"The investigation has revealed that you may have been directly involved in an effort orchestrated by President Trump, his personal agent, Rudolph Giuliani and others to withhold... nearly USD 400 million in security assistance in order to pressure (Ukraine) to pursue investigations that would benefit President Trump's personal political interests," the chairmen of the three committees leading the probe wrote.

Rajnath Urges Russian Defence Industries to Jointly Manufacture in India

Union Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday called upon the Russian defence industry to work jointly to modernise India's defence platforms and manufacture equipment to give a massive boost to the two nations' exports to third countries.

The defence minister said the Indian government is encouraging Orignal Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to make use of the 'Make in India' initiative.

Singh was addressing the CEOs of OEMs from the Russian defence industry after jointly inaugurating the 'India-Russia Defence Industry Cooperation Conference' with Russian Minister of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov in Moscow.
