Will Respond to Challenges Faced by All Sectors: Nirmala Sitharaman

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Friday said the government will respond to the challenges faced by all the sectors.

Every possible help will be extended to them, she told a press conference in Kolkata.

"We are looking at the challenges which the sectors are facing. We will respond to the challenges and extend every possible help," Sitharaman said to a query on the economic slowdown.

About revenue collection during the current financial year, she said targets have been given to the CBDT and CBIC.

Woman Gangraped in Rajasthan's Jahwalar District

A 30-year-old woman has alleged that she was raped by five people, including a neighbour of her, in Jhalawar district of Rajasthan, police said on Thursday.

The woman approached the police on Wednesday accompanied by her husband and complained that when she was grazing cattle in a field on Tuesday afternoon, her neighbour forcibly took her to a nearby forest and raped her, SHO of Gangdhar police station said.

Five Held for Printing, Circulating Fake Currency Notes in Agra

Five members of a gang allegedly involved in printing and circulating fake currency notes have been arrested by the Uttar Pradesh Police's Special Task Force (STF) from Agra district, sources said.

The accused, Shivam Tomar, Omkar Jha, Awadhesh Savita, Sunil Sisodia and Lakhan, were arrested from Agra's Sadar area following a tip-off on Thursday, 5 September, the STF sources said.

Fake currency in denomination of Rs 100 amounting to Rs 35,000, a printer, a laptop, stamp paper used as raw material, pen drive and other things that are used to print counterfeit currency were recovered from their possession, they said.

SC Directs Land Cost for Phase IV of Delhi Metro to Be Borne by Centre and Delhi Govt in 50:50 Ratio

The Supreme Court said that operational loss, if any, in Phase IV of Delhi Metro project will be borne by Delhi government. Delhi government bound to ensure that financial health of DMRC is maintained properly and no steps are taken resulting in loss, said the top court.

The Court directed that land cost for Phase IV of Delhi Metro will be borne by the Centre and Delhi government in 50:50 ratio. SC directed authorities to ensure that no delay is caused in Phase IV of Delhi Metro and amount for land cost be released forthwith.

SC directed Centre, Delhi government to work out modalities and release Rs 2,447.19 crore of land cost for Phase IV metro within three weeks.

Woman Raped by Policeman, His Friend in Ghazipur

A woman was allegedly abducted and raped by a policeman and his friend, and thrown near a canal in Uttar Pradesh's Ghazipur district, police said on Friday, 6 September.

The incident took place at a village in the district's Mardah area on Wednesday evening.
Uttar Pradesh Provincial Armed Constabulary jawan Abhay Yadav has been arrested, while his friend is at large, they said.

They raped her, tied her legs and hands and threw her near the canal, police said.
The woman, who is married, somehow returned to her house and on a complaint from her mother, an FIR was registered, they said.

8 Hospitalised After Gas Leak in Massachusetts Supermarket

At least eight people have been hospitalized and over 50 suffered from respiratory issues after a refrigerant leak in the US state of Massachusetts, the police said.

The leak was reported on Thursday, 5 September afternoon at a Market Basket supermarket in the town of Rowley, 50 km north of the city of Boston. Multiple people showed symptoms of coughing or tearing. No one suffered from serious injuries, Xinhua news agency reported citing Rowley Police Department.

Jharkhand Youth Gets 20 Years Rigorous Imprisonment for Raping Minor

A Jharkhand court has sentenced a 19-year-old youth to 20 years rigorous imprisonment for raping a minor girl in Simdega district in 2018. Akash Kumar Pradhan was found guilty under POCSO Act and sections of the Indian Penal Code on Thursday, 5 September.

Additional district judge (I), Neeraj Kumar Srivastav pronounced the sentence on Pradhan and also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on him, additional public prosecutor Subhas Prasad said.

Child Allegedly Raped by Neighbour in UP's Ballia

A three-and-half-year-old girl was allegedly raped in a village in Chitbadgaon area in Uttar Pradesh’s Ballia by her neighbour, police said on Friday, 6 September.
