US President Donald Trump said Thursday that the United States will keep a permanent presence in Afghanistan, with 8,600 troops initially, even after a deal is reached with the Taliban.

"We're going down to 8,600 and then we make a determination from there," Trump said in an interview with Fox News radio.

"We're always going to have a presence." Trump also warned that if another attack on the United States originated from Afghanistan "we would come back with a force like ... never before."

BJP-Led Govt Pushed Country Into Financial Emergency: Congress

The Congress on Friday accused the BJP-led government of forcefully taking Rs 1,76 lakh crore from the RBI to hide a "grave" economic slowdown and claimed that it had pushed the country into a "financial emergency".

The Reserve Bank of India had on Monday approved the transfer of a record Rs 1.76 lakh crore dividend and surplus reserves to the government, boosting the BJP-led regime's prospect of stimulating the slowing economy without widening fiscal deficit.

Former state minister and chairman of Nagaland Peace Centre (NPC) Netsutso Theyo has died at Oking Hospital in Kohima after a brief illness, family sources said.

Theyo died at 8:40 pm on Thursday, they said.

He was 82 and is survived by three sons and four daughters.

Rajib Ray Elected as Delhi University Teachers' Association President

Rajib Ray was elected on Friday as the president of Delhi University Teachers' Association (DUTA) for a second term, officials said.

Ray, who belongs to Left-affiliated Democratic Teachers' Front (DTF), defeated AK Bhagi of the right-affiliated National Democratic Teachers' Front (NDTF) by a slim margin of 269 votes.

Ray polled 3,750 votes while Bhagi secured 3,481 votes.

Two Feared Drowned in Rivers in Maharashtra

Two persons, including a teenager, were feared drowned in rivers in separate incidents while washing their cattle on Friday in Maharashtra, police officials said.

One of them, Mangesh Gawande (24), was washing his bulls in the Purna river near Andura village in Balapur taluka when he was swept away by strong currents. In the second incident, Sham Tayde (15), who was washing his bulls in the Vidrupa river at Talegaon village in Telhara taluka, was also swept away by strong currents.

Class 10 Student Dies at School in Navi Mumbai

A 15-year-old boy died at a school at Nerul in Navi Mumbai on Friday morning, police said. The incident took place at Poddar school in Seawoods locality.

Soumya Sanjay Bhatnagar, a Class 10 student, apparently had an epileptic fit near computer room at the school around 7.20 am and collapsed. He was rushed to D Y Patil Hospital in Nerul where he was declared dead before arrival, a police official said.

Thane: 3 Men Convicted Under SC/ST Act for Abusing Woman

A court in Thane, Maharashtra, sentenced a man to three years in jail under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act on Friday for abusing an adivasi woman, an official said.

Special Judge (SC/ST Act) G P Shirsat also imposed a fined of Rs 5,000 on Devidas Ramchandra Patil, additional public prosecutor Rekha Hiwrale said. Two others, who were with Patil at the time of the incident, were given one-year jail sentences, along with a fine of Rs 1,000 each, she added.

The Maharashtra State Commission for Women (MSCW) has asked police to submit a report on the death of a 19-year-old woman who was allegedly gang-raped in Mumbai, its chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar said on Friday.

The woman, who was allegedly raped by four of her friends in Chembur in Mumbai in the first week of July, died at a state-run hospital in Aurangabad city in central Maharashtra on Wednesday night.

The co-founder and chief executive of Twitter has had his own account on the service taken over by hackers. A group referring to itself as the Chuckling Squad claimed responsibility for the breach.
