Facebook Buys Maker of Hit VR Game ‘Beat Saber’

Facebook-owned Oculus on Tuesday said it is buying the studio behind hit virtual reality game "Beat Saber" as it looks to expand VR technology to wider audiences.

Oculus, which makes Rift and Quest VR headgear, did not disclose financial terms of the deal to acquire Prague-based Beat Games.

Israeli Aircraft Hit Hamas Site After Rocket Fire From Gaza

Israeli aircraft attacked several sites for Gaza's Hamas rulers early Wednesday in response to rocket fire from the Palestinian enclave.

The Israeli military said the targets of the multiple airstrikes in the southern Gaza Strip included a weapons manufacturing facility. There were no reports of injuries.

Turkey Test of Russian Defence System Concerning, Says Pompeo

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has voiced alarm over Turkey's testing of its Russian missile defence system but said the NATO ally could still return to Washington's good graces.

"It's concerning," Pompeo told reporters on Tuesday when asked about reports that Turkey used US-developed F-16 fighter jets to test the S-400 system controversially purchased from Moscow.

Turkey defied US warnings to buy the weapons system from Russia, which culminated in Ankara's expulsion from the F-35 fighter-jet programme.

Student Stabbed by Junior In School In UP's Shamli

A class 12 student was allegedly stabbed by his junior inside a school in Uttar Pradesh's Shamli district, police said on Wednesday.

The incident took place at the Saint RC convent school in the district on Tuesday and the injured student, identified as Amit Sharma, was admitted to a hospital in a serious condition, they said.

Sharma was stabbed by Ritik Katraia, a student of class 11 following a confrontation between them, Circle Officer Jitender Kumar said.

Ashok Leyland Bags Order From TN for 1,750 Buses

Hinduja Group's flagship firm Ashok Leyland on Wednesday said it has bagged an order from Tamil Nadu State Transport Undertakings for 1,750 buses.

This order comes closely on the back of orders received from various state transport undertakings recently, the company said in a regulatory filing.

"We are very happy to receive the confirmation of this order. Our ability to bring value, combined with our superior technology and innovation will help us maintain our leadership position in buses in lndia," Ashok Leyland COO Anuj Kathuria said.

The company, however, did not disclose the financial details of the deal.

Over 100 Cong Workers Detained in Tripura for Taking out Rally Without Permission

The Congress in Tripura has alleged that police "baton-charged and tortured" its workers and detained them for taking out a rally without permission to commemorate Mahatma Gandhi.

The allegation of torture, however, was denied by police, which said it "only ensured that the crowd dispersed".

As many as 134 Congress activists, including senior leaders Gopal Chandra Roy and Subal Bhowmik, were on Tuesday detained for more than three hours, police sources said.

Govt Hikes Authorised Capital of FCI to Rs 10,000 Crore

The government on Wednesday increased the authorised capital (maximum amount of share capital a company can issue to shareholders) of Food Corporation of India (FCI) to Rs 10,000 crore from Rs 3,500 crore, paving the way for additional equity infusion in the state-owned firm.

The decision would also help the FCI, the government's nodal agency for procurement and distribution of foodgrains, in reducing its debt and interest cost.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved increasing the authorised capital of the FCI.

Gobind Singh Longowal on Wednesday was re-elected as president of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) during its annual general house meeting on Wednesday.

He will head the apex gurdwara body for the third time in a row after being elected as its chief for the first time in November 2017.

Longowal's name was proposed by former SGPC chief Jagir Kaur during the meeting.

Two men were killed when a heavy vehicle rammed into the two-wheeler they were travelling in on the Western Express Highway, police said on Wednesday.

The incident occurred on Tuesday night when Borivali residents Sagar Patel (25) and Anil Waghela (23) were travelling towards the western suburb of Malad on their two- wheeler, an official from Samta Nagar police station said.

An explosion at a chemical plant in Texas early Wednesday sent a large fireball into the sky, media reports said, triggering a mandatory evacuation.

Former Navy Chief Sushil Kumar No More

Former Navy Chief Admiral (retd) Sushil Kumar died at a military hospital on Wednesday morning following a brief illness, his family said.

He was 79. Kumar was Navy Chief from 1998-2001.

He died around 3:30 AM at the Army Research and Referral hospital, the family said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled his demise, saying Kumar contributed towards strengthening the country's maritime security.

Give us 5-acre Mosque Plot if Sunni Board Rejects SC Offer: Shia

The Uttar Pradesh Shia Central Waqf Board Wednesday said it would ask the government to give it the five-acre plot that the Supreme Court said should be allotted for building a mosque, if the the Shia board rejects the offer.

But the board will use the land for setting up a hospital and not a mosque, its chairman Waseem Rizvi said.

He added that the board will not approach the court but would request the government for the land.

The Sunni Waqf Board, a main litigant in the Ramjanmabhoomi-Babri Masjid land case, is yet to decide whether to accept the land.

21 Pakistani Migrants Granted Indian Citizenship by Rajasthan Government

The Rajasthan government on Wednesday granted Indian citizenship to 21 Pakistani migrants who have been living here for about 19 years, officials said.

These people were living here after being displaced from Pakistan. As they had no Indian citizenship, they were finding difficulties in getting government jobs and availing benefits of various schemes, District Collector, Jaipur, Jagroop Singh Yadav said.

A total of 35 Pakistani migrants now have been awarded Indian citizenship in the last two months, he said.

3 Killed in Accident on Mumbai Bridge

A 35-year-old man was killed and four others, including a woman, injured when a speeding tempo collided with three motorcycles on Sion bridge in central Mumbai on Wednesday, police said.

The mishap took place when the two-wheelers suffered a head-on collision with the tempo, killing one of the motorcyclists Abdul Wahid Mohammed Roshan and injuring four others, including a woman, an official said.

The injured persons were rushed to Sion Hospital, where they are undergoing treatment, he said.

The police has arrested tempo driver Adesh Wankhede and is in the process of registering a case against him, the official added.

Radha Soami Satsang Beas Dera chief Gurinder Singh Dhillon's wife passed away in a hospital in England early Wednesday morning.

Shabnam Dhillon had developed some complications after undergoing a stomach surgery.

She went to England on November 12, where she was operated upon on November 20. Shabnam had undergone a surgery earlier also in a Gurugram hospital.

A Dera official said she was survived by her husband and two sons -- Gurpreet Singh Dhillon and Gurkirat Singh Dhillon.

He said the sect chief had conveyed that the family had decided to bring back Shabnam's body to the Dera headquarters in Beas, adding that the body would be brought to India after completing all the formalities in the UK.
