Pentagon Hands Microsoft $10 Billion 'War Cloud' Deal, Snubs Amazon

The Pentagon has awarded Microsoft a $10 billion cloud computing contract called JEDI .

The contentious bidding process for the contract pitted Microsoft, Amazon and Oracle, among others, against one another.

Bidding for the huge government contract has attracted more attention than usual, sparked by speculation early in the process that Amazon would be awarded the deal. Tech giants Oracle and IBM pushed back with their own bids. Oracle also challenged the bid process in federal court, but lost .

Tulsi Gabbard Drops Congressional Race to Focus on Presidential

US Representative Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaii doubled down on her long-shot presidential campaign, announcing she wouldn't also run for reelection in her congressional district where a state senator is mounting a spirited push to take her seat.

The 38-year-old Democrat said the threats of war, international tensions and the threats of a new cold war convinced her she should focus on the presidential race.

"I believe I can best serve the people of Hawaii and our country as your President and Commander-in-Chief," she said in in a video recording released online early Friday on the East Coast and late Thursday in the islands.

Over a Million Protesters Demand Chile President's Resignation

More than one million people took to the streets in Chile on Friday for the largest protests in a week of deadly demonstrations demanding economic reforms and the resignation of President Sebastian Pinera.

The leader told the thronging masses that he had "heard the message" in a post on Twitter, characterizing the protests in a positive light and as a means towards change.

Demonstrators carrying indigenous and national flags sang popular resistance songs from the 1973-90 Augusto Pinochet dictatorship era as the country, usually seen as one of the most stable in Latin America, grapples with its worst violence in decades.

Four Prisoners Escape from Chhattisgarh Jail

Four prisoners, including two facing trials in murder and rape cases, escaped from a jail in Chhattisgarh's Mungeli district by breaking the lock of their barrack and using a rope made of bedsheets to scale the high wall, police said on Saturday.

As per preliminary investigation, the incident took place on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday at the sub-jail located in Mugeli town, said Ashish Arora, Mungeli City Superintendent of Police (CSP).

The prisoners, identified as Tarun Kewat alias Chhotu, Dhiraj, Idal alias Indradhwaj and Suresh Patel, broke the lock of their barrack and then used a rope made from bed sheets and clothes to scale the 20-feet wall of the prison, he said.

Delhi Chokes Again Day Ahead of Diwali, Likely to Worsen on Sunday

Just a day ahead of Diwali, Delhi's air quality dropped to season's worst on Saturday, due to decrease speed of the wind affecting the dispersion of dust particles.

"The decrease in wind speed has started to negatively influence Delhi's air quality by drastically decreasing ventilation coefficients and thereby affecting dispersion," said the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR).

At 10 am on Saturday, the overall air quality of Delhi was docking at 305, said SAFAR. The organisation had predicted that on Sunday, the air quality will get even worse than Saturday. The AQI is expected to be around 324.

Ex-Pakistan Premier Nawaz Sharif Suffers Angina Attack

Former Pakistan prime minister Nawaz Sharif on Saturday suffered angina pain while undergoing treatment at a Lahore hospital, according to a media report.

Angina is a type of chest pain caused by reduced blood flow to the heart.

Sharif suffered angina pain in the morning while undergoing treatment at the hospital, the Dawn News reported quoting Services Institute of Medical Sciences (SIMS) Principal Dr Mahmood Ayaz.

Ayaz refuted reports in a section of media that the 69-year-old Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader has suffered a heart attack.

Earlier in the day, Sharif's lawyer Khawaja Haris claimed that the former premier had suffered a "minor heart attack" last night and that his "life is in danger".

Mild Tremors Hit Maharashtra's Palghar

Maharashtra's Palghar district experienced a mild tremor, measuring 2.7 on the Richter scale, on Saturday, an official said.

An earthquake, measuring 2.7 on the Richter scale within a depth of 5 km, was experienced at around 8.45 am in the district, chief of disaster cell Vivekanand Kadam said.

No damage of property or casualty has been reported, he added.

Delhi Man Shot Dead in Road Rage, 6 Arrested

A man has been shot dead in Delhi's Jahangirpuri area after he got into fight with two persons on a bike, which brushed passed him, police said on Saturday, 26 October.

The incident happened on Thursday and police said they have arrested six persons and also detained a minor in connection with the case.

Those arrested are Suraj (35), Prashant (23), Arun Bhatia (24), Harish Bhatia (33), Abhishek (24) and Govinda (30), all residents of Jahangirpuri, they said.
