"Journalists are not there just for praising wearing blindfolds. Their job is to make news on public issues and seek answers from the government," Priyanka Gandhi said in a tweet.

1 Person Drowns, Six Missing During Idol Immersion in Maharashtra

One person drowned and five others were missing during immersion of Lord Ganesha idols on Thursday at different places in Maharashtra, PTI reported, quoting the police.

The incidents were reported from Amravati, Bhandara and Satara districts and the missing persons are feared to have drowned, they said.

Earlier, PTI had reported that six people drowned during idol immersion in Maharashtra.

ED Grills Congress Leader DK Shivakumar’s Daughter for over 7 Hours

The Enforcement Directorate questioned Congress leader DK Shivakumar's daughter Aishwarya for over seven hours in New Delhi on Thursday in connection with its money-laundering probe against the politician from Karnataka, officials said.

They said the 22-year-old management graduate was questioned and her statement recorded under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

She arrived at the agency's office in Khan Market around 10.30 am and left at 7.30 pm.

Six Bangladeshi Infiltrators Nabbed

The Special Task Force of Kolkata Police on Thursday arrested six Bangladeshis from Sealdah station area in the city for infiltration into India.

Three Indians who facilitated their entry were also arrested.

Acting on a tip-off, STF personnel arrested Indian nationals 49-year-old Madhab Mahajan, 35-year-old Nayeb Molla and 27-year-old Santosh Kumar Chaki for helping six Bangladeshis enter the country through the Petrapole-Benapole border, a senior police officer said.

Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi on Thursday told her party colleagues that being active on social media is not enough and the party needs a concrete plan to reach out directly to the people.

Paris Braces for Massive Metro Strike over Pension Reform

Paris metro and other public transport workers were to walk off the job on Friday for a huge one-day strike over President Emmanuel Macron's plan to overhaul France's retirement system.

Ten of the city's 16 metro lines will be shut down completely, while service on most others will be severely curtailed, in particular during Friday's rush hours.

Two of the 3 main suburban lines traversing the city will be "very strongly disrupted," the Paris transport operator RATP warned, with just a handful of trains running during only the peak morning and evening hours.

Buses and trams will also be impacted, often with just one in three operating.
