Blast Heard Near US Embassy in Kabul on 9/11 Anniversary

A large explosion rocked Afghanistan's capital near the US Embassy in the early hours of Wednesday on the anniversary of the 9/11 attack on the United States.

A plume of smoke rose over Kabul just after midnight and sirens could be heard. An embassy employee reached by phone confirmed the explosion but had no details. There was no immediate official comment.

US Media Showing One-Sided Perspective on Kashmir: Indian Envoy

Some sections of the American media, especially the liberal media, is focussed on a perspective on Kashmir that has being "pushed forward" by those who are "inimical" to India's interest, the country's ambassador to the United States has said.

Harsh Vardhan Shringla said New Delhi's move to abrogate Jammu and Kashmir's special status last month and bifurcate it into Union territories was done for the "benefit" of the people.

In an interview to PTI, the top Indian diplomat called Article 370, which gave special status to the state, an "anachronistic provision" that was "stifling the economy and encouraging the inflow of Pakistani terrorism".

Indian IT Company Accused of Discrimination Against Non-Indians

In a class action lawsuit, an Indian digital service company has been accused of discrimination against non-Indians and giving preference to people from South Asia in hiring and jobs.

In her lawsuit, American national Tami Sulzberg alleges that at least 90 per cent of the US workforce of San Jose-based Happiest Minds, whose headquarters is in Bangalore, are South Asians, primarily from India.

PM Launches Programme to Vaccinate 500 Million Livestock

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday launched the National Animal Disease Control Programme (NADCP) for eradicating Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) and Brucellosis in livestock.

With 100 per cent funding from the central government till 2024, the Rs 12,652 crore programme aims at vaccinating over 500 million livestock including cattle, buffalo, sheep, goats and pigs against the FMD.

China to Exempt 16 Categories of Us Products from Tariffs

China announced Wednesday it would exempt 16 categories of products from US tariffs, ahead of a fresh round of trade talks next month.

The exemptions will become effective on September 17, according to the Customs Tariff Commission of the State Council, which released two lists that include seafood products and anti-cancer drugs.

North Korea Again Tests 'Super-Large' Rocket Launcher: Report

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has supervised a fresh test of a "super-large multiple rocket launcher" system, state media said Wednesday -- the latest in a series of provocations by Pyongyang.

South Korea's military said Tuesday that the North had launched "unidentified projectiles" from the Kaechon area in South Pyongan province. They flew approximately 330 kilometres (205 miles).

The launch came shortly after Pyongyang said it was willing to hold working-level talks on denuclearisation later this month with the United States.

Over 2,700 Gifts Received by PM to Be Auctioned

Over 2,700 gifts received by Prime Minister Narendra Modi will go under the hammer from September 14, Culture Minister Prahlad Patel said.

A total of 2,772 gifts will be auctioned online, he said.

The lowest base price of the mementoes is Rs 200 and the highest is Rs 2.5 lakh, the minister said.

Over 1,800 gifts received by the prime minister were sold in a fortnight-long auction that began in January this year.
