N Korea Fires ‘Projectiles’ After Offering Talks With US

North Korea on Tuesday fired projectiles toward the sea, South Korea's military said, hours after Pyongyang said it is willing to hold working-level talks with the United States in late September.

Negotiations between Pyongyang and Washington have been gridlocked since a second summit between the North's leader Kim Jong Un and US President Donald Trump in February ended without a deal.

CIA Informant Extracted From Russia Confirmed Putin's Meddling in 2016 US Election

In a stunning revelation, an informant from the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) who was extracted from Russia in 2017 had confirmed that President Vladmir Putin had "personally ordered and orchestrated" Moscow's meddling in the US presidential election.

People familiar with the matter said that the CIA source, was outside of Putin's inner circle, was privy to decision-making at high levels of Russian government, according to The New York Times (NYT).

Typhoon Stranded 17,000 at Tokyo Airport: Operator

Around 17,000 passengers were stranded overnight at Tokyo's Narita Airport, an official said, after it took a direct hit from a powerful typhoon that caused transport chaos throughout the capital.

The typhoon caused more than 100 flights to be scrapped and road and rail links to the airport were also badly affected, leaving many with no transport options to the city — 70 kilometres (45 miles) to the west.

10 Countries Cited for Extreme Media Censorship: Watchdog

Eritrea is the world's worst country for press censorship, a media watchdog said in a report which also cites extreme measures in nine other countries including North Korea, China and Saudi Arabia.

Under the three worst regimes — Eritrea, North Korea, and Turkmenistan — the media “serves as a mouthpiece of the state, and any independent journalism is conducted from exile,” said a report by the US-based Committee to Protect Journalists.

Jack Ma Steps Down as Alibaba Chairman Amid Industry Uncertainty

Jack Ma, who founded Alibaba Group, the world's biggest e-commerce company, is stepping down as chairman at a time when the rapidly changing industry faces uncertainty amid a US-Chinese trade war.

Ma stepped down Tuesday as part of a succession announced a year earlier. He will stay on as a member of the Alibaba Partnership, a group of 36 people with the right to nominate a majority of the company's board of directors.

Five Naxals Held in Chhattisgarh

Five naxals were arrested in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district by a joint team of security forces from the forests of Bandaguda village, police said.

Violence, Arson Mar Muharram Procession in MP's Shajapur

Violence and arson marred a Muharram procession in Shajapur in Madhya Pradesh, police said.

The incident occurred late night on Monday when stones were hurled in the direction of the procession in Nathwada area of the city.

President Trump Nominates Indian-American as US District Judge in Florida

US President Donald Trump has nominated Indian-American Circuit Court Judge Anuraag Singhal as a federal judge in the US state of Florida.

Singhal is among the 17 judiciary nominations sent by the White House to the Senate. If confirmed by the Senate, Singhal would replace Judge James I. Cohn on the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida.

Singhal is the first Indian-American to be nominated to this position in Florida.

A Pakistani court has constituted a two-member bench to hear an appeal of jailed former prime minister Nawaz Sharif against his conviction in the Al-Azizia corruption case, a media report said on Tuesday.

The bench constituted by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) consists of Justice Aamir Farooq and Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani that will hear the case on 18 September, the Dawn newspaper reported.

UP Govt Approves Interim Relief for Rape, Mob Lynching Victims

The Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday decided to provide interim compensation to victims of rape, mob lynching and other such crimes.

The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Lucknow.

"It has been decided to provide interim compensation to victims of rape, mob lynching and other such crimes pending probe. A maximum of 25 per cent interim compensation will be provided on DM's report," UP government spokesperson Sidharth Nath Singh told reporters after the meeting.

The Gujarat government on Tuesday reduced fine amounts stipulated in the new Motor Vehicles Act passed recently.

While the new Act stipulated a fine of Rs 1,000 for riding without a helmet, the Gujarat government on Tuesday finalised the amount at Rs 500. Similarly, the penalty for driving without a licence has been brought down from Rs 5,000, as suggested by the new Act, to Rs 2000 for two-wheelers and Rs 3000 for four-wheelers.

India Firms up USD 130 Billion Plan to Enhance Military Capability

India has finalised a road map to spend USD 130 billion in the next five to seven years to modernise the armed forces and bolster their combat capabilities over rivals in the region, PTI reported, citing an official document and military sources.

The plan includes procurement of a range of weapons, missiles, air defence systems, fighter jets, submarines and warships, drones, surveillance equipment and developing infrastructure for extensive use of artificial intelligence, official sources told PTI.

US Designates Leader of Pak-Based Terror Group as Terrorist

The United States on Tuesday (local time) designated the leader of Pakistan-based terror organisation, Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), as a terrorist.

TTP, also known as Pakistan Taliban, in an alliance of the terror group. The group is responsible for carrying out multiple suicide bombings, and have killed hundreds of civilians. TTP was earlier designated as Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT) by the Department of State.
