COVID-19: 2.16 Lakh Cases in India; SOPs for Hotels, Malls Issued

India on Thursday, 4 June, recorded the highest single-day spike of 9,304 new COVID-19 cases, taking the tally in the country to more than 2.16 lakh. According to the Union Health Ministry figures, the death toll in the country stands at 6,075, while 1,04,106 patients have been cured or discharged.

Maharashtra on Thursday reported the highest number of deaths in a single day with 123 fatalities, taking the death toll to 2,710. As many as 2,933 new COVID-19 cases were reported, taking the tally in the state to 77,793. Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu reported 1,384 new coronavirus cases and 12 deaths in the highest single-day spike, taking the tally in the state to 27,256 and the death toll to 220.

The Health Ministry on Thursday also issued the SOPs on preventive measures to be taken in hotels, shopping malls, restaurants and places of worship to contain the spread of COVID-19. This comes days ahead of the re-opening of these places on 8 June, as specified by the Home Ministry in its guidelines under Unlock 1.0.

Telangana Reports 127 Fresh Coronavirus Cases

Telangana Health Department said, “127 new COVID-19 cases reported in the state, taking the total number of cases in the state to 3,147,” reports ANI.

1,359 New COVID-19 Cases Recorded in Delhi Today

The Delhi Government said, “Delhi reported 1,359 new COVID-19 positive cases, total number of cases is now 25,004. Death toll stands at 650. There are 14,456 active cases.”

Around 38,000 More People Expected to Be Repatriated: MEA

Over 1.07 lakh stranded Indians have returned to the country from abroad since the government launched the 'Vande Bharat' evacuation mission on 7 May, the Ministry of External Affairs said on Thursday, reported PTI.

Around 38,000 more people are expected to be repatriated in 337 flights from 31 countries, it added.

The Health Ministry on Thursday issued the SOPs on preventive measures to be taken in hotels, shopping malls, restaurants, places of worship and offices to contain the spread of COVID-19.

This comes days ahead of the re-opening of these places on 8 June, as specified by the Home Ministry in its guidelines under Unlock 1.0.

257 New COVID-19 Cases in Karnataka

As many as 257 new COVID-19 cases and four deaths were reported in Karnataka on Thursday, taking the tally in the state to 4,320 and the death toll to 57.

Haryana to Open Schools in July in Phased Manner

Schools to reopen in July in phased manner, starting with classes 10-12, followed by classes 6-9 and 1-5. Haryana Education Min Kanwar Pal announced.

“For social distancing, schools to function at 50% strength. In class of 30 students, 15 will come in morning and 15 in evening or alternate days,” he said.

“We will be conducting a demo in 4-5 schools to prepare and better the plan. Colleges will reopen in August with first-year commencing from September. Universities will take rest of the decisions,” he added.

47 New Cases in Assam

Assam reported 47 new COVID-19 positive cases till 11:47 am today, taking the total number of positive cases to 1,877. Number of active cases stand at 1,457.

68 New COVID-19 Cases in Rajasthan

Rajasthan reported 68 new COVID-19 positive cases till 10:30 am today, taking the total number of cases 9,720. Number of active cases stand at 2,692.

Defence Secretary Ajay Kumar Tests COVID-19 Positive

Defence Secretary Ajay Kumar reportedly tested coronavirus positive on Wednesday, 3 June.

After his test result came out, a large number of defence officials got themselves tested. Many officials who had come in contact with him have also gone in self-quarantine, ANI reported citing sources.
