On Monday, the English felt a sense of ‘deja vu’ on the football field. England, who opted for Brexit on Friday, also had to exit the Euro Cup as they suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of Iceland. Unfortunately for them, Twitter wasn’t too forgiving. The social media site erupted with jokes, memes and gifs about England’s ‘double exit’. People joked about launching a re-match petition similar to the petition for conducting the EU referendum again. Hashtags #ENGICE and #England were used to slay the football team and their coach Roy Hodgson. The poor coach resigned after facing so much criticism.
