On Sunday, we carried the story of Mashal Maheshwari, a bright-eyed Pakistani student who shifted to Jaipur two years ago with the dream of practicing medicine in India.
Despite being a meritorious student, Mashal has been unable to write her medical entrances as the PMT form has specifications for only two categories – Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) and Non Resident Indian (NRI), and she falls into neither.
In a heartwarming development, her appeal for help to the Indian government was heard and speedily addressed by External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, who tweeted:
On 30 May, Swaraj kept her promise of help and tweeted out her personal phone number to Mashal.
Following this tweet, CNN News18 got in touch with a visibly excited Mashal, who thanked the Indian government for their speedy help.
