The Delhi High Court put an end to the most pressing issue in the country when it declared that footwear without any back strap is a sandal, not a chappal.

With lakhs of cases pending in courts since years, it’s good that there’s finally an answer to this mystery (maybe to decide whether it was a chappal or a sandal that was thrown at a politician, whenever it happens next.)

The issue, however, was debated on since the export of ‘sandals’ attracts 10 percent export duty while ‘chappals’ attracts only 5 percent. The government withdrew a 10 percent duty drawback given to a footwear manufacturer, saying the footwear it exported were ‘chappals’ as it did not have back straps. The Delhi HC, quashed the government’s decision, ruling those were sandals.

Obviously, ever since it made headlines on Sunday, Twitterati had ample time on its hands to make fun of the life-changing information.
