Gurgaon has a new name. On Tuesday, in what could only have been the brainwave of a bored Haryana government, Gurgaon was renamed. Much to the dismay of anyone who lives there, Gurgaon will now be called Gurugram.
The logic behind BJP’s renaming is as worrying as it is... well, lame. Haryana is apparently the ‘historic land of the Bhagwat Gita,’ and Gurgaon ‘has been a centre of learning.’
The asinine nature of the name-change and the (*cough cough* Hindutva) ideological underpinnings behind it haven’t escaped Twitter’s cynics and comics. Here is a list of Twitter’s best offerings on #Gurugram.
