Looks like Google has taken Bryan Adams’ song 18 Till I Die too seriously, given that 27 September might be the seventh time they’re turning 18!

The tech giant made one of its cute, trademark doodles for its eighteenth birthday on 27 September. Problem is, there have been at least six other earlier occasions when they have celebrated the milestone, as reported by The Independent. And Google might not even be 18 yet.

The confusion perhaps arises because there are a plethora of dates that the Internet giant can consider its birthday.

The domain “google.com” was registered in 1997. Going by this date, it turned 19 on 15 September this year.

The company got its first investment of $100,000 in August 1998. This was paid to Google Inc, which, however, did not exist at the time.

The company filed for incorporation in September that year, making it an official company on 4 September 1998. This could be closest to an official birthday for it.

The confusion around a birth is usually about parents, but Google in 2013 admitted it doesn’t really know when its real birthday is. (Which probably explains the multiple birthdays and celebratory doodles.)

In September alone, the 7th, 8th and 26th have been marked as Google’s birthdays in the past. But 27th September was first celebrated in 2002 as the fourth birthday of the giant – which they seem to be sticking to for now.

Even the Google doodles are older than the company – the first one was released on 30 August 1998 for the Burning Man festival, while it became a company only on 4 September that year.
