Prejudice against HIV positive people no more.
Three years after being terminated by her company following an HIV diagnosis, a Pune-based woman has gotten justice courtesy the Labour Court.
According to ANI, the Court on Monday ordered the company to reinstate her in the same post she was in before she was fired, as well as provide her with all the back wages.
When the woman submitted paperwork to claim medical benefits — papers that revealed that she had been diagnosed with HIV — the company asked her to resign on the same day.
The woman’s services were terminated in 2015. She says she was verbally told the reason was her HIV diagnosis. However, the company’s documents mention "absenteeism" as the reason.
The woman employee then went to a Labour Court in Pune to challenge the company’s order.
The woman had contracted HIV through her husband who died from the disease.
