Every year after #NoShaveNovember comes Existential December when we’re left asking #IsItAlreadyDecember and #WhatDidWeDoAllYear. And since we survive in the physical world but we really LIVE on the internet, it’s time to look at the mashup of how useless we have been this year on “YouTube Rewind: The Shape of 2017.”
And the verdict is...2016 was a cooler year. There we have said it. We have disappointed Santa and all those believe that we can be better.
This year does have Salt Bae (who will forever change our salt sprinkling style) and of course Kendrick Lamar (god bless his powerful music), but in comparison to 2016, can slime and Taylor Swift’s resurrection ever beat the Pokemon Go craze and Beyonce’s mic drop album?
But here’s the thing, great minds need to find solace to produce great works of art, *ahem* memes. ISIS, North Korea, Russia, mob lynchings, Donald Trump and Harvey Weinsteins did keep 2017 awfully busy, dealing with bigotry, radicalism, racism and sexism for people to spare enough time to come up with trendy pop cultural references for the world to feed from this year.
But without panicking too much about this year’s unproductivity. Let’s have a look at all the most watched videos of 2017 released by YouTube:
