An ad campaign can either cut through and shoot up a company’s sales or pull the brand down to the ground.

Burger King put out a campaign in the Russian market, offering a lifetime supply of their whopper burgers to women carrying children fathered by FIFA World Cup players.

An apology put up the Russian division of Burger King.

Through this campaign, they were trying to communicate that the progeny of such talented stars will go on to be soccer plays and will benefit the Russian national football team, reported USA Today.

But the misguided attempted backfired on Burger King’s global chain, with Twitter marshalling its strength to target the company. The Russian arm of the chainwas forced to apologise for putting out such an offer, and took it down. But by then it was too late.

On Tuesday, Burger King took this campaign down as it was “too offensive.” Really, BK, ya think?
