Salman Khan has consistently landed in trouble for making cheeky statements that aren’t always in good taste. Remember when he compared his exhaustion from a physically demanding shooting sequence in Sultan to a “raped woman”? Now, the star is back in the news for his insensitive sexist comments.
Throughout the promotions of Bharat, the actor has taken unsavoury digs at Priyanka Chopra for opting out of the film and used her name to promote it.
But this is not the first time Salman has made insensitive remarks about people.
In an interview with Arnab Goswami after the release of Dabangg, in which he played a corrupt cop, he had the following things to say on corruption in the country.
People call Salman Khan ‘Bollywood’s bachelor’.
Tumko kya hai meri shaadi se? Meri shaadi se tumko kuch faayeda hoga kya? Agar fayeda hoga toh sirf mujhe he hoga. Meri biwi kya tumhari biwi ho jayegai? Nahi na. Shayad tumhari biwi meri biwi ho jayegi, but meri biwi tumhari nahi hogi.
(Why do you care about my marriage? What will you gain out my marriage? My wife won’t be your wife. Your wife can be my wife, but not the other way round.)
“Whenever she has not taken my advice, she’s had a hard time. Jab bhi nahi suna hai, takleef mein aayi hain,” he adds.
For Alia Bhatt he says, he doesn’t know what she can be apart from being an actor. For both Aamir Khan and Shah Rukh Khan, he says that they will excel at whatever they choose to do. Why can’t actresses like Katrina and Alia excel at whatever they choose to do then?
Now watch this:
When Karan Johar asks Salman Khan about what he thinks Kareena Kapoor could be if she wasn’t an actor, guess what he said?
Now, I am not forcing you to make assumptions.
Skip ahead in the video to when Karan asks Salman about Priyanka Chopra, he says she can be a singer. But how long does that last for you? One second. Legit! And in the next breath he jumps and says that she should be a housewife.
Now thinking that isn’t a problem. But thinking of women ‘only’ as housewives?
In an interview with Sonia Singh of NDTV, Salman Khan said, “If I hit someone, I will give it my best shot.” This was around the time when Aishwarya Rai had alleged that Salman Khan used to hit her when they were dating.
“I see a lot of people getting depressed and emotional, but I can’t afford that luxury of being depressed or sad or emotional because no matter what I am going through, it works against me,” said Salman Khan.
This statement surely shocked many.
