You know where I think men and women differ the most? In their shoulders. While a man, with his swollen biceps atop his burly, hairy arms signifies heaviness and strength, a woman with her soft shoulders and lithe arms signifies gentility, grace and beauty. And I love women’s clothing that highlights the beauty of our shoulders, because they allow us to celebrate the uniqueness of our bodies.

Which is exactly why I love Spring 2016’s cut-out shoulder trend. Because it succeeds in elegantly revealing a woman’s soft shoulders, bringing them subtly into focus.

Yes, there’s a possibility one can look haggard and inelegant wearing them, but materials like chiffon or georgette almost guarantee you a sophisticated, effortless look.

Last year for the Spring Season 2016 fashion show, brands like Proenza Schouler and Alexander Mc Queen made it evident that the trend would flood fashion magazines in the coming six months.

And indeed, Vogue complied, showing off 20-year-old Kendall Jenner, the closely-watched style icon for young girls, wearing a cut-out shoulder top in its April 2016 issue.

High street labels like Zara , Forever 21, H&M, and designer brands like Donna Karen New York and Alexander Mc Queen diligently incorporated the trend in their new lines.

Most cut-out shoulder tops and dresses possess clean lines.

Because the unexpected cut-out is the focal point of your outfit, you don’t want to complicate it with incomprehensible silhouettes or cascading ear pieces. Just keep your shoulders the talking point.

The micro-trend, that can be teamed up with palazzo pants, skirts and boot-cut denims, is here to stay this season. We’ll just say – don’t give it the cold shoulder!
