Let’s get real. If there can be an app to tell you how many steps you walked today – or how much moolah you’ve got left in the bank – is it unlikely that people have already begun decoding modern relationships through mechanics?

The Greeks can keep their Cupid, we’re counting on our apps! Based on the level you’re at in your relationship, there are several technologies to nudge you in the right direction or tell you if you’ve met the right match. (There are those that customise you and your partner’s grocery lists!)

Here are eight relationship apps that piqued our interest and that we think you’ll find rather useful too.

Ideal for: First Date/Casual Dating

App: Open Ended Questions, Rs 120

Do you sometimes feel tongue-tied? After all, you’re just getting to know the other person. Get beneath the surface and find out the real deal. Easy to use, the app helps you converse better. It urges you to ask some basic questions with tact and politeness – like, “ what do you want to do 5 years from now?” or “are you happy with what he’s doing professionally?”

App: Klikaklu, Free

Love the outdoors? Add some adventure to your date with a scavenger hunt. The app uses your location to help create a hunt including pit stops at spots that hold meaning to you. This helps you reveal secrets that help him/her get to know more about you and have a ton of fun!

Ideal for: New Relationships

App: Better Half, Free

Can’t wait for your Friday night date? Make it better by killing your dinner-and-a-movie suggestions. This app uses your location to find out the best restaurants, movies playing as well as the timings. Pretty smooth, I say!

App: Avocado, Free

One of the most used apps; you can only set it up with your partner/1 other person. This app comes in handy for keeping in touch with your partner the whole day. From sharing selfies, updates and a to-do list, you can talk without talking!

It could be a work related trip or your partner having moved to New Zealand; long distance relationships can be tough. If your partner is in a different time zone, try Skype Qik. If you tend to miss your partner on Skype Chat or Call, just record a video message with cute backgrounds, stickers and more!

App: Touchnote

This one’s for the reeeeeeally thoughtful out there. If you’ve been spending a lot of time on Pinterest or just want him/her to see your new hairstyle/latest retail buy – click a photo, add a message and your beau’s address. The app will send a REAL postcard to them. You’re welcome!

Ideal for: Marriages/Long-Term Relationships

App: Expressing Needs, Rs 120

So, here’s how this one’s wired. Your partner isn’t a mindreader (much as we’d all like to think they are) and expressing your needs without blowing your head off is imperative. Enter app: expressing needs. This is essentially to be used when you’re with your partner and want to bring up issues. These needs could range from doing the dishes to having a baby.

App: Grocery Smart, Free

Does your partner forget many items when they go grocery shopping? Install this app. Share your grocery lists, tick off the ones you already bought and add products to the list when they’re out shopping. The app lets your partner know about the updates in seconds – making your life a little simpler!
