Valentina Sampaio of Brazil is set to become the first transgender model to be featured on the cover of a French magazine. The 22-year-old will be on the cover of Vogue Paris in its March edition.

The Brazilian is described in the edition as a "femme fatale" who was born as a boy.

The magazine's editor-in-chief, Emmanuelle Alt, wrote in her editor's letter:

Beyond her evident physical qualities and her sparkling personality, (Sampaio) embodies, a long and painful fight against being perceived as a ‘gender exile’.

The magazine, which will be on the newsstands by 23 February, will have the words Transgender Beauty and a subtitle – “How they are shaking up the world,” on its cover.

Over the recent years, transgenders have increasingly been receiving a lot of opportunities.

The US magazine National Geographic featured a nine-year-old transgender girl – Avery Jackson and their cover story was titled Gender Revolution.

The 24-year-old transgender model and actress Hari Nef has been selected to represent cosmetics group L'Oreal Paris’ latest foundation cream in a global advertisement campaign.

The day when a transsexual poses for a magazine cover and it will be no longer necessary to write an editorial on the subject, we will know that the fight has been won.
