Former England football captain and ‘Sexiest Guy Alive’ David Beckham is challenging Commonwealth leaders to step up and end Malaria.

In an advertisement, Beckham is seen standing in a glass cage surrounded by millions of mosquitoes. He tells the audience in the clip: "We can be the generation that ends it for good, malaria must die so millions can live."

According to the World Health Organisation, in 2016, there were 216 million cases of malaria worldwide and 445,000 deaths.

India recorded 6% of new malaria cases in 2016 according to the World Malaria Report 2017. According to the same report, 15 countries account for 80 percent of all malaria cases globally in 2016.

Most deaths occur in children under five who have week immune system.

Beckham is fronting the 'Malaria Must Die - So Millions Can Live' campaign.
