  • Drug price regulator National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) on Monday capped the prices of 56 important medicines used in the treatment of cancer, diabetes, bacterial infections and blood pressure, slashing their prices by about 25 percent, on an average.

  • The price cut is being carried out under Drugs (Price Control) Amendment Order, 2016, and retail prices of eight formulations under DPCO, 2013.

  • Set up in 1997, NPPA handles the task of fixation/revision of prices of pharma products, enforcement of provisions of the Drugs (Prices Control) Order and monitoring of prices of controlled and decontrolled drugs.
