Akshay Kumar’s Toilet: Ek Prem Katha had mixed reviews, with most critics calling the film a long drawn out PSA for Swachh Bharat - but the audience seems to be enjoying this social drama. The film has managed to rake in Rs 63 crore over the long weekend.

The Akshay Kumar starrer, which started off with Rs 13.10 crore collections on Friday, rose to over Rs 20 crore by Sunday.

With an extended weekend, Toilet: Ek Prem Katha has earned good business on Monday (Janmashtami) and Tuesday (Independence Day). This Akshay Kumar-Bhumi Pednekar film could turn out to be the biggest Bollywood money spinner this year so far.

While Baahubali: The Conclusion was technically a Telugu film, big films like Kaabil, Raees just about managed average box-office collections while Salman Khan’s Tubelight and Shah Rukh Khan’s Jab Harry Met Sejal actually lost money.

Made on a modest budget of approximately Rs 40 crore, the smart economics behind Toilet: Ek Prem Katha could eventually make it a winner.
