On the controversial issue of the demand by groups like the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) asking Pakistani artistes to leave India, actor Sidharth Malhotra spoke exclusively to The Quint and said that the film industry was just a “soft target”:

Artistes be it in any kind of creative field, be it movies, have no connection with what happens politically in different countries. I don’t personally think it’s going to make a difference to our situations, we are just soft targets and that’s why they are trying to bring this issue up. So it’s sad.

I’ve worked with Fawad and we didn’t cast somebody because of their nationality, we cast them as an individual as performers and there are so many other technicians who come from all around the world to India to work, not just actors, there are cameramen, make-up artistes. The world is becoming smaller and smaller, you can’t say “yes” or “no” to one particular nationality.

When asked about the news of Fawad Khan leaving India for Pakistan, Sidharth said, “Fawad was never here, I am in touch with him, so I know.”
