According to reports, a crew member named Michael died as a result of a careless accident on the sets of Rajinikanth’s under production film Kaala in Chennai. A huge set worth Rs 5 crore was being erected at EVP Studios in Poonamalle, Chennai when the tragedy occurred. Michael reportedly stepped on a live electric wire and was electrocuted on the set. He died despite his co-workers having rushed him to a nearby hospital. The Tamil Nadu police are now investigating the matter.

A similar careless accident had occurred in December 2016 on the sets of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavati. A painter had fallen from a height of around 5 feet while painting the set of the film. He was declared dead on arrival at the Kokilaben Hospital.

Kaala directed by Pa Ranjith and featuring Rajinikanth, Nana Patekar and Huma Qureshi among others had its first shooting schedule in Mumbai. The second schedule was to resume in Chennai at the set in EVP Studios. Kaala is Rajinikanth’s second collaboration with director Pa Ranjith after the successful Kabali. The film is being produced by Rajinikanth’s son-in-law Dhanush’s production house, Wunderbar Films.
