Barring rare films like Chameli and Omkara, Kareena Kapoor usually chose more masala films than her contemporaries who didn’t shy from experimenting early on. However, at 34 Kareena finally seems to be coming out of her comfort zone of working only in big budget films with A list stars.

According to a source, Kareena herself has been looking out for meatier roles while she is doing commercial films like Bajrangi Bhaijaan to balance her current status.

I have always wanted to strike a balance between commercial cinema and offbeat films. I am known as an actor as well as a star. To maintain the star status it’s important to do commercial masala films. And I have done that all my life. Offbeat cinema will always be a part of me. I am working with Raj Kumar Gupta, R Balki and Abhishek Chaubey. All these films will be very different. They are all different kind of directors. After a certain time in your career you want to try different things. Of course I will keep working with Rohit Shetty. That’s not going to change.

Take for instance the next three films she will be seen in:

1. Rajkumar Gupta’s next where she will reportedly play a schizophrenic who finds herself at the centre of a crime.

2. Abhishek Chaubey’s Udta Punjab, which revolves around Punjab’s notorious drug mafia. Not only did she chose a bold subject here but showed maturity in accepting a film which also stars her ex, Shahid Kapoor and a much younger Alia Bhatt.

3. R Balki’s next which is reportedly an unconventional love story set in North India. Here Kareena is paired opposite a much younger Arjun Kapoor.

It’s not just her choice of films, the actress has also been making all the right noises when she recently spoke about aging.

I think one should age gracefully. I am proud to be 34 and I think aging is wonderful. I hate it when I look at somebody and know that they have tried to cover the lines. I don’t want to be an 18-year-old or a 22-year-old girl. I am just done with that phase of my life. That is why I don’t even try to be 22.
